In 1998, Jan became an American citizen and competed for the United States for the first time. In 2003, Jan won a spot on the Pan American team in Santo Domingo, aboard Feleciano, and clinched the gold medal for the United States when he was the highest ranked USA team competitor. Jan and Feleciano finished 5th overall at the Pan Am Games individually.
In 2006, Rafalca, a 1997 Oldenburg mare, was purchased for Jan to ride and compete. Jan has shown and competed in the World Cup in 2007, 2009, and 2011. In 2011, Jan and Rafalca were the highest ranked USA riders at the World Cup in Leipzig, Germany. In July 2011, Jan was a member of the USA team in Aachen. Jan and Rafalca have been ranked 27th on the World Ranking list during 2011.
