Robin Katherman presenting High Point Awards

The 2011 East Bay Annual Awards dinner was once again held at Bridges in San Ramon as the facility is stylish and very accommodating, offering a wide range of yummy appetizers and quality main dishes.  The Annual Dinner Committee chaired by Diana Bicksler did an outstanding job coordinating all aspects of organizing this event and it proved to be an elegant, rewarding evening for all attendees.

The items donated to the Silent Auction this year were so diverse and amazing, the eager bidding started immediately!  Generous donations items varied from a Pasadena 5 Star luxury getaway package, custom equine portraits, lovely equestrian attire, gourmet dining experiences, a collection of services donated by our East Bay Junior Riders, lesson packages, original artwork, and even a chic basket of Salon items and services!  While members were able to enjoy the delicious appetizers, a glass of wine or champagne, we were treated to lovely live Jazz music provided by Tony Corman, Noah Schenker and Dave Tidball.

After the cocktail social and enthusiastic bidding on the numerous Silent Auction items, the attendees were seated to start enjoying their 3 course dinner and the evening program began with a welcome by Co-Chair, Amy Mezey then Linda Stalcup, introducing the Annual Awards Dinner Committee Chair, Diana Bicksler. Diana graciously thanked the distinctive efforts of all of her committee members whose teamwork and commitment made the event so successful:

Amy Mezey – Event Coordination, Sponsor Liaison

Linda Stalcup – Event Coordination, Ad Liaison

Laurie Daniel-Smith – Invitations, RSVP’s, Welcome Table, Awards

Chris Rossi – Invitations, Program Book, Advertising, Photo Coordinator

Dayle Kuhn – Decorations

Justine Wilson – Event Liaison, Volunteer Coordination, Awards Certificates

Emily McDonald – Silent Auction Book and Volunteer Support

Linda McDonald – Auction Booklet Coordinator

Amy Riker-McGirl – Silent Auction

Robin Katherman – Awards, Awards Presentation

The podium was then returned to Co-Chair, Linda Stalcup, who had the privilege of announcing a very special and exceptional event scheduled for the following weekend at the upcoming Yarra Yarra Show; Mary Grace Davidson’s Century Club ride! The Chapter wished Mary Grace success and congratulations by surprising her with a lovely bouquet of flowers.
Co-Chairs, Amy and Linda, were then privileged to present the 2010 Volunteer of the Year Awards. East Bay is fortunate to have so many conscientious and generous individuals who contribute, however, several volunteers stood out as special with their tremendous enthusiasm, spirit and dedication.  The Adult Amateur 2010 Volunteer of the Year was Laura Arvindan, and the 2010 Junior Volunteer of the Year was Madeleine Coronado.  Both recipients stood out as enthusiastic Show Volunteers filling numerous and essential roles.  The East Bay Chapter introduced a new Distinguished Professional Award this year, and we were honored to present this to long-time Chapter Member, former Board Member and always generous Volunteer, Christine Rossi.
The podium was then turned over to our Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Patrick Adams.  While members continued to enjoy their dinner, the silent auction was still in full swing and gaining momentum as bidders keep a close eye on their favorite items and bidding sheets.

As dessert was being served, Show and Awards Chair, Robin Katherman began the CDS East Bay Chapter 2010 Show Series High Point Awards presentation.  It was very exciting to see our members achieve their Dressage goals and each recipient was presented with a lovely framed certificate and the overall high point award winners received embroidered East Bay logo saddle pads.

The Chapter and special trophy donors also had several distinctive awards to distribute during the evening.  The Ilene Koch, Second Level Adult Amateur Award, donated by Chuck and Liz Lewis of Wyvern Farms, was presented to Linda Stalcup and Franz.  The CMG Award for FEI Adult Amateur was presented to Ruth Shirley and PEC Womanizer, (PSG).  The first recipient of the Luzifer Memorial Trophy donated by Carla Hayes and Kelly Casey for overall FEI Freestyle was Jessica Miller and Bogely’s Mauricio (Intermediare).  Carol and Jose Alonso were honored to present Hannah Copland and Pultasatyr (25), owned by Eva Soo Hoo, with their stunning Arthur Alonso Memorial Trophy, awarded to a horse 20 years or older achieving a score of 58% or higher.  Justine Frazier and Board Member, Connie Dahl, took the podium to surprise and thank Kris Kalstrom who is retiring from Denville Kanani, for hosting the numerous shows and events for our Chapter for so many years.  Kris was presented with an engraved plaque and given lots of hugs!

The East Bay Chapter is elated and grateful to have so many generous sponsors this past year. Co-Chair, and Sponsor Liaison, Amy Mezey, decided to forgo the Annual Sponsor Wine Raffle, and award each sponsor with a lovely bottle of wine! Amy humorously hinted that she could just not pass up the recent  5 Cent sale at Bev Mo and sponsors were delighted to select their own bottle of wine from the Awards Table.

Volunteering has its benefits in addition to contributing to your Chapter sponsored programs and shows, and each year Adult Amateurs who volunteer at East Bay events look forward to the Adult Amateur drawing hoping that their name will the drawn as the fortunate individual selected to attend the prestigious Adult Amateur Clinic.  This year’s elite Clinician is Donna Richards, and Appointed Board Member, Jan Bauman was the lucky winner!  Linda Stalcup, Michelle Rosenberg, Kristina McDougall and Kris Kalstrom are alternates.  Furthermore, this year the Chapter held a raffle for an East Bay Professional who has generously volunteered their time, and the recipient of $100 to be contributed towards 2011 show and competition expenses, was Justine Wilson!  Congratulations Jan and Justine!

As the banquet began to wind down, our Master of Ceremonies, Patrick Adams, reminded everyone of the closing of the Silent Auction and last minute bids were entered on favorite donation baskets resulting in a very successful event and evening for our Chapter.  Members with the winning bid on their prize, delighted in gathering up their treasurers, and while all said good night to friends and fellow attendees, feelings of excitement and anticipation towards next year’s dinner gala were already on everyone’s mind!

Special Thanks!
