Junior/Young Rider Clinic 2023 Wrap Up

CDS East Bay chapter sent Delaney Cockrell and her horse Emilion SA to the 2023 CDS Junior/Young Rider clinic with Nadine Schwartzman at PEC in Wilton. This is her wrap of of the clinic below.

My horse, Emilion SA (Eeyore) and I, had a great time at the clinic with Nadine. I learned so many great tips and good drills to practice at home! Nadine helped me access a more cadenced trot from my horse, which was really fun. Nadine explained how that could affect my scores in the show ring. She helped me understand how important a walk warmup is to my horse. She had me do half-passes, shoulder in, and travers in the walk. Eeyore was much more reactive to the aids throughout our ride because of what we did in the walk. It helped get him more supple, over his back, and more in front of the leg. It was the same thing in the trot- a stretchy warmup with lots of moving off the leg which was very beneficial for the rest of the ride.

Another thing that Nadine helped me with was a drill for when my horse became change-happy. It helped me focus on sitting to the correct seat-bone and helped my horse become more focused on what we were doing, not on throwing in extra changes. Nadine was friendly, knowledgeable and open to answering any questions we asked her, it was so much fun and I’m so glad I was able to attend! I made some new friends at the clinic who I was able to see at the next show I went to. We supported each other by watching each other’s rides, it will be fun to see them again in the future! Thank you so much CDS East Bay for giving me this incredible opportunity!!
